Hedonism, the philosophy that pleasure is the ultimate goal in life, has a long history dating back to ancient Greece. The earliest form of hedonism was Cyrenaic hedonism, named after the ancient Greek city of Cyrene.
Hedonism is a philosophical theory that holds that pleasure is the ultimate good, and pain is the ultimate evil. It maintains that maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain is the key to living a good life. Hedonism can be classified as ethical, psychological, or axiological, depending on whether it concerns what is morally good, what is psychologically motivating, or what is intrinsically valuable. The term “hedonism” comes from the ancient Greek word for “pleasure.” Here we seek to examine its abundant flaws in the light of Islam.
